The Polaris interview system builds on the two types of interview questions that research shows to be
the most effective:
Behavioral Consistency Questions
Situations that might be faced on the new job are described to candidates. Then they are asked about how
they handled similar situations in the past, why they chose to handle the situations as they did and what
they might do differently (if anything) in similar situations in the future, etc.
Hypothetical Situation Questions
Situations similar to ones found on the job are described to candidates. Then they are asked how they
would handle the situations, why they would choose that course of action, what else might be done, etc.
Behavioral consistency questions work well for candidates with prior employment.
Hypothetical situation questions are especially useful when interviewing less-experienced candidates. The
Polaris system allows the best type of question to be used in each circumstance.
The Polaris system then enhances the usefulness of these types of questions by adding
features such as testing system “pass throughs” that focus interviewers’ attention on high-payoff areas. The
result? An efficient and highly effective interview that complements the value supplied by the
testing system.
The Polaris Cost Advantage Not least in importance, organizations gain the
advantages of the Polaris interview system without incurring expensive training or consulting fees. In most
cases the interview system is provided :
- For a nominal set-up charge, with no on-going license or materials usage charges
- For free, if testing volume warrants
