The authors describe the nature and history of the use of scored biographical data (biodata) in personnel selection. Research on the scoring, validity, incremental validity, subgroup differences, and applicant reactions to biodata are summarized. A construct approach to scoring and use of biodata is advocated and the position that a variety of constructs are measurable and valid indicators of employee performance.
